Shayla J. Nealy is a Councilmember in Union City, GA. As one of the community's final decision-makers she devotes her official time to problems of basic policy and is a liaison between the city and the general public. In just one year in this role, she has secured four large Fortune 500 companies (2,000 new jobs) along with several million dollars in private investments and acquired nearly $200,000 in federal funding.

She has actively participated in civic service since childhood and this love for humanity still resides, as she is highly involved in city governance and serves on numerous principal boards. Prior to election, she was the only dual appointment to the Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals, serving 3.5 years; utilizing her expertise as an engineer on regional environmental issues relating to water resources and land development practices.

Nealy is also the Water Resources Engineer for the Clayton County Water Authority. She earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Central Michigan University and Bachelor’s in Biological Systems Engineering from Florida A&M University.

She is a dynamic, well versed woman who has received copious accolades and awards for her efforts and continues to show her ability to be civically engaged and work place efficient. She has utilized the wealth of knowledge from service affiliations and work experiences to hold a variety of leadership roles with professional organizations.

She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Nu Lambda Omega Chapter and has been featured in the national Ivy Leaf Publication Spring 2013 edition, and the highly read cover story in the local South Fulton Neighbor Newspaper in November 2011. In 2012 she was selected to attend the AIPAC Policy Conference in Washington, DC in which she met with members of Congress and their Political Advisors on most pressing issues related to the Israel and African American Community. Also in that year, she received the 2012 Margaret Davis Bowen Most Outstanding Graduate Member Award for the South Atlantic Region of Alpha Kappa Alpha for her sorority leadership, community achievement and leveraged relationships with dignitaries and international delegations. Shayla served as the 2013 Curriculum Chairperson for New Leaders Council (NLC) Institute, a highly-selective premier leadership and professional development, training, networking, and career and political advancement program for young professionals, in which she is a 2012 Alumni. She is also a Jewell Jackson McCabe 2013 Emerging Leader Institute, Inc. Graduate, and a member of the Young Elected Officials Network.
She currently serves as the Young Professionals Co Chairman for Georgia Association of Water Professionals.

In her spare time, she is a noted panelist, mentor and supporter of many community arms. This keeps her grounded by maintaining a regard and concern for the wellbeing of people; giving aid and empowering them to experience a higher quality of life. As a testament to her professional dedication and service relations, she has been honored as a 2014 Atlanta Business Chronicle’s 40 Under 40 recipient and Georgia’s Best and Brightest in the 2011 Georgia Trend 40 Under 40. Honorable Nealy will be included in this year’s 2015 “Most Influential” category of Who’s Who in Black Atlanta.
