Union City provides a comprehensive employee benefit program to full-time employees working 30 hours or more each week.  Spouses and dependent children are also eligible.   Our affordable options support access to high-quality healthcare and other benefit services. Three premium medical choices are available through United Healthcare (www.myuhc.com) via the Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) Core, HMO Buy-Up or Point of Service (POS) plans.  Our Dental plan is offered through Ameritas (www.ameritas.com) and vision benefits are offered through United Healthcare (www.myuhcvision.com).

The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a City paid benefit.  Confidential counseling services for employees and their family are provided free of charge.  EAP can help when life challenges interfere with your family,  job, and peace of mind.  EAP Consultants serves as the City's EAP provider and delivers excellent services including referrals for child and elder care, legal services and financial counseling (www.eapconsultants.com) 

Full-time employees working 30 hours per week or more maintain a Basic Life Benefit of 2x their Annual Earnings up to the maximum of $200,000.  Spouses have a $20,000 Basic Life Benefit and the amount for child(ren) is $10,000. Accidental Death and dismemberment insurance is also provided at no cost.  Lastly, the City pays short –term and long-term disability insurance for employees working 30 or more hours per week.

Additional Services:

Retirement plans. Eligible employees can elect to contribute to a defined benefit 457(b) plan up to the federally authorized legal contribution limit per calendar year. The City will match the employee’s contribution on a percent by percent basis. (www.oneamerica.com)  

Additionally, the City has an employee retirement plan that will provide monthly benefits for eligible, retired employees. The plan is designed to supplement the employee’s Social Security benefits and their personal savings. The City pays the entire cost. 

Supplemental Insurance. Supplemental insurance coverage for critical illness, accident and hospitalization.  Supplemental insurance provides benefits to help cover the costs associated with unexpected bills due to an accident or illness. Employees have the option to select one or both of our partnering vendors:  Aflac (www.aflac.com) and Colonial Life (www.coloniallife.com)

Legal Services.  Employees are able to purchase affordable Identity Theft Protection and Legal Protection plans through LegalShield (www.legalshield.com).

Flexible Spending Accounts.  The rising cost of health and dependent care (or child care) is encouraging more employees to take advantage of FSAs (Flexible Spending Accounts) through Medcom (www.emedcom.net). A participant can save anywhere from 10 – 30% by using pre-tax money in an FSA to pay for health or dependent care expenses incurred during the plan year.
